Final ReflectionQuote of the Day: “You must modify your dreams or magnify your skills.” – Jim Rohn
From Wednesday through to Friday, 1B had a 3-day expedition. It was a similar journey from last time, however, this was just our expo group (1B) and we had canoeing for all 3 days. It was quite a good trip. The whole team had a lot of determination to get to the campsites quickly, and everyone participated with their roles daily. I think I went pretty well with personal development during this expedition. I kept up with my personal goal quite well – which was to stay calm, and positive through the whole expo. I did, however, get feedback saying that I looked quite annoyed at certain times for example, when we had to stop and wait for some people. During the examples that my feedback buddy gave me, I didn’t actually feel annoyed and I was in fact the one who called out most of the time saying some people had to stop. I thought about this feedback for a while, and decided that the next goal I could aim for is improving my body language - making sure that I look positive and happy - and making sure my tone of voice doesn’t sound irritated, so that I don’t give off the wrong impression. The team, made quite a lot improvements during this expo too. Although at the start of the trip, we were working more as individuals, rather than as a team, most of us noticed it, and made improvements along the way. As time progressed, majority of the team acknowledged the areas that they needed to improve on, and started to step up and accomplish small goals they set for themselves so they would develop those skills. We kept referring to the helicopter model (the three aspects of leadership: the individual, the task, and the team) and we all made sure that we could get our ‘personal’ model as equal as possible in the short time we had. At times, our expo group did lack respect for each other. However, when we noticed this was happening, our team organiser made sure that we were all standing in a ‘communication circle’ so that everyone could listen as well as contribute to the team discussions. On the last day, we didn’t end up needing to get into a circular formation, but when we could (or remembered to) we still did it out of habit. I think everyone in the team did a great job, and everyone put in a lot of effort. Fortunately, there were no major fights, and everyone had fun along the way. This expo was so much easier than the last and I really enjoyed myself through those 3 days. |
