Quote of the Day: “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” - Henry Ford
Evening class:
Yesterday’s evening class was hosted by 2 guest speakers. The first was Dave Whyte and the second was Mike Becker. Dave talked about some of the things he has achieved – relating to sport. He has completed 2 ironman triathlons (the Melbourne, and Macquarie Bay) and has also swum from the shore all the way to Beware Reef (located on a beach close to here). He talked about the SMARTER goal setting, and what he did to train to go to an Ironman. Dave showed us a list he made of things he would need for both training, and competing in the Ironman. He brought some of the equipment with him – like his aerodynamic helmet and the clip on pedals for the cycling part of the triathlon. He showed us a few videos – 2 of them being his finishes of the Ironmans.
Mike Becker, also talked about some of his physical achievements. However, he spoke about his long trip through the Te Araroa track – in New Zealand. All together, the track is 3000 km, and he managed to walk (and canoe) through all of it.
These 2 speakers really got me excited for our next expo, and helped me see that you can always achieve what you set out to do, if you put in the effort, and make a reasonable goal.
Today:
Today, 1B had Intro to Canoes. It was a fairly interesting class, teaching us a bit more about team work and organisation. We learnt how to manoeuvre the canoe, and easy ways to direct the way it goes. After that, we learnt 2 different techniques we can use to turn over a capsized canoe. One of them requires another canoe, but the other just got us to push the turned over canoe to shore, and turn it over there.
The actual activity wasn’t where our team showed most initiative. I believe that the setting up and packing up stages was when our expo group showed the most team work skills, and helped each other out. (^-^)
Teamwork Tuesday:
This week, our expo team seemed to be progressing quite well. Although there are still a few occasions when certain members get a little overwhelmed, or stressed, loud discussions have stopped considerably. We have managed to get more fun into days, and activities, and improved on keeping our positivity. (^-^)
