Day 56 - June 11
Quote of the Day: "In order to succeed you must fail so you know what to do next time." - Anthony D'Angelo
Evening:
For last night's evening class, core 1 had "Engineers without Borders". Here we learnt about all the countries that lack proper, clean water and resources. As the main activity, we got split off into 6 groups. We were all assigned different countries, with a different budget. For example, my group - Indonesia - had a budget of $50, whilst another group - Australia - had a budget of $1,200 or so. With the amount of money we were given, we had to build a water filter, to clean dirty water and make it 'drinkable'. Of course it wasn't really drinkable since we put bleach/chlorine in it, so that was probably not the best thing to do. They also gave us a sheet of paper with instructions. Once again, the country you were representing determined the legibility of those instructions. However, a diagram was very easy to read, so it all work out okay. Our group didn't end up with very clear water though. We managed to buy all the resources the diagram showed - thanks to a large donation from Australia - but whether it was the charcoal or gravel that tinted the water, or the fact that it wasn't a very good filter, I wouldn't know. Ethiopia had the cleanest water, and funnily enough, Australia had one of the dirtiest water. Oh well.
Today:
Today was a rest day, so I didn't really do much. Just rested.
I started off by finishing some of my passport. I then spent a lot of time in my room playing my guitar, and once I grew bored of that, I went outside for morning tea. From there, I helped the people that were on duty pack away all the spreads that were used, and started helping out in the kitchen. I helped the cook - Mrs. Wade - with cooking today's afternoon tea - which was chocolate fudge cake. After lunch, I also helped make some meat loaf, a toss salad, as well as a few other things for the cooking committee - which I am a part of - because on Saturday, we have both a Mad Hatters themed lunch, and Formal night, so there is a lot of food that needs to be made.
As part of today's community goal, we went out to spirit spot about 1 hour - 1 hour and a half early. We walked all the way up to the beach, did our reflection, and then had afternoon tea there. We then played a game of food and water that will be put on the documentary.
After we walked back, we had such a happy surprise! We got to write our iDEARR too!
So, surprise, its a small, succinct spirit spot special submitted to society through cyberspace.
Hope you had fun reading it!
