Quote of the Day: "You must welcome change as a rule, but not as a ruler." - Denis Waitly
Last night's evening class:
Yesterday was a rest day. The first week was tiring, so it was nice to finally have a day without (as) many expectations, or activities. For the evening class, we watched a movie and it was the animated film, "The Lorax". It was a very nice movie, and although I have watched it before, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again. This time - thanks to school ^-^ - I saw a lot of film techniques that were used, like colour and camera angles, to portray different characters, or the position of the characters both in the story and in the musical numbers. I also noticed a few different 'easter eggs' in the film like a few references to the minions - from "Despicable Me" - and a few different other minor characters doing funny things in the background.
After the movie was finished, as a group, we looked at what message the movie was trying to depict. We talked about how nature is very important, and how we need plants and other creatures on the Earth to survive - yet we are destroying them at an alarming rate. We also looked at the fact that if we want something to change or improve, we need to be really passionate about it or things just won't get better. Much like Dr. Seuss stated "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."
Today:
Today in morning class, 2B and - my group - 1B, added more to our 'passports'. We started writing a section called 'My Story" where we wrote about where we were from, some difficulties that we faced in life, and things that truly shaped us to become the people that we are today. This task made me think about my life, and what I believe to be the truly important moments.
During afternoon class, we had a guest speaker - Darren McCubbin - visit, and give us a lesson about our beliefs and values - which is a section that we also have to fill out in "My Story". He started off by telling us about him, so we could further understand his point of view. He then proceeded with the lesson, by telling us a story. The story was about a couple - a man and a woman - that were in love and spent every night together, but then a storm flooded their village and there was a massive 'river' separating them. However, with them being so in love, they had to see each other, so the woman found a way to get across, but in doing so she would have to sleep with another man. Later in the story, there were 2 more characters that were introduced, and most of the characters had done some bad things - murder, manslaughter, a form of rape, etc. - and we had to order the characters from best to worst. Once we finished our list, we had a bit of a debate, justifying our decisions, and I had a lot of fun.
Later, Darren showed us a presentation about Malala Yousafzai, and he showed us that we need to persevere if we want to make a change, and even at our age we can have an influence and change the way some things are done.
Overall, today was very productive, and it was very enjoyable (^-^)
*side note* Unfortunately I will not be able to post the "My Story" today, and if I don't get it done by tomorrow, it probably won't until Friday (?) since we need to have it checked over by a teacher, and I am going on a 3 day expo from Tuesday through to Thursday.
