HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD! 😏🎂🎉🎊🎁
Quote of the Day: "If you hit a wall, you push through it." - Captain Haddock (TinTin)
Last night's evening class:
For last night's evening class, we had one of the teacher's (Mr Morton) daughter (Darcie) come in and talk to us about her journey playing sports, specifically biathlon in the Youth Olympic Games. She talked about the environment she had to stay in, and how to play the sport. Biathlon is a sport, that is played in many parts of Europe, especially during cold months. It is composed of 2 'sports' skiing and shooting. She explained to us some of the training that she does - whether it be mountain bike riding, actually skiing, or where she trains to shoot - and how long her training sessions would be.
Darcie is only 16 years old, yet she has accomplished great things, and aiming towards even greater. She pushes herself, and makes sure that she loves what she is doing, because, originally she played competitive table-tennis, but although she enjoyed the sport, she didn't absolutely love it, and had the courage to get up, and work towards being successful in another sport.
Today:
This morning, we went to Cape Conran, and did our lesson on 'Coastal Environments'. Here, we looked at different creatures that live in rock pools - like sponges, starfish, sea snails, etc. - and how they form one of the most unique ecosystems. Once we all collected a critter, or plant, from a rock pool, we showed them to our group, and the teachers helped us give a broad identification on what it was, and any fun facts they knew about it. Afterwards, the teachers gave us a sheet of paper with a few different animals and plants that we had to find, and take pictures of - like a mini treasure hunt.
After morning tea, we went to a different spot of Cape Conran - we were originally on the east side, then we moved to western Cape Conran - to a place called Salmon Rocks. Around there, we explored around the rocks, and looked around for different creatures. I found a shell, which turned out to contain a hermit crab - which I originally mistook for a spider of some kind - and saw a few crabs. When we all regrouped, we were given a few cards with different animals and factors that sustain an ecosystem. We then had to form a food web, and describe why it worked like that, as well as explaining what could happen if one factor was taken away.
We then went back to campus, and had lunch.
For our afternoon lesson, we had our first CLP (Community Learning Project) session. Here we assigned roles for the future lessons like Team Organiser, Blog Writer (writes a newsletter article for a blog or the home school newsletter) and what we needed/wanted to do/organise for the project. We managed to get all the planning done quite quickly in our group, and I hope we stay this productive throughout our next sessions, because it is really fun working in the group.
Motivated Monday:
The positives I have for the past week are successfully completing the 3 day hike, and being able to socialise with all the other girls in core 1 😁. Leadership Day was also a plus for me because I thoroughly enjoyed the classes and helped me understand different aspects of leadership.
Some negatives I had are that core 2 are now leaving for Expo, and I will have 2 nights on my own without a roommate, but at least I will be able to finish my book. Also, I find it a little sad that we have already gone past 2 weeks and now on the 3rd, but at least I get to spend my time here 😎
