Quote of the Day: "A fish rots from the head down” – William Shakespeare
Yesterday's Evening Class:
Last night’s evening class, we did a “My Place” collage. This lesson was directed by Mr. Reeves, and in our school groups, we had to complete 2 things; a poster and an ‘elevator pitch’ about our area/suburb. The name elevator pitch comes from the idea that if someone comes up to you in an elevator asks “Who are you?” you can give them an informative answer in about 2 minutes – before they reach their floor. At first we were told to split off into CLP groups – meaning there would be 2 MWSC groups. However, we found that this would be too redundant, as there would be 2 teams talking about the same place, so we joined up and made one big group. It was a little tricky to do this, but we got a few facts down, wrote up about 10 sentences, and distributed the sentences between the members of our team (of which we have 10). When we presented, we had one of our team members improvise quite a bit, and although it was unexpected because he never discussed it with the group, but I am glad he did it.
Today:
Today we had the best morning class ever: NAPLAN! (please note the sarcasm)
It was a bit nice to take a little flash back to what we normally do at school, and I feel like if I was a bit too excited for it. In the next 2 days, we will have more NAPLAN tests, but today, we did English Comprehension and Writing. I felt fairly confident with a lot of the work we did on punctuation, spelling and grammar, I did get a few things wrong (at least in the spelling sector). I spelt refrigerator wrong, which was slightly disappointing, because it was only after finishing the test that I realised I spelt it ‘refridgerator’. However, I am quite happy with the way I went on the test, and – although it is weird to say – I rather enjoyed it. For the writing part, I was sad that we didn’t get to write a persuasive piece, but the prompt they gave us for the creative writing task immediately gave me an idea, so I went with it, and managed to finish my story ahead of time. 😁
For afternoon class, we had the ‘Marlo Challenge’. We were split off into predetermined groups, and were let loose around Marlo to try and recreate pictures that had been taken of different buildings and signs in the area. Our team – the Lazy Lads (since we decided to dress up in our pyjamas) – did very well in this, because we manage to almost perfectly recreate a few pictures. The reason this was quite difficult was because we had to memorise what the pictures looked like, and weren’t allowed to refer back to them again during our ‘mission’.
Teamwork Tuesday:
Over the past week, in the different groups I have worked with, everyone seems to be getting on quite well. Our expo team, 1B, had a bit of a rough patch during one activity, but we managed to get past it and continue working effectively as a team. I think everyone needs to continue with the positivity they have during group discussions, and keep giving each other feedback, as it is truly helping everyone grow as a person. 😄
