Quote of the Day: “A word of encouragement during a failure is worth more than an hour of praise after success.” – Unknown Author
Evening class:
For evening class last night, we watched the movie “The Power of One”. It was an extremely powerful movie set in South Africa, during a time where the English pushed many Europeans out of their countries, so they settled in far away. The European settlers were then called the Afrikaners, and they forced the darker skinned Africans into slavery. A hatred was built towards the British, and unfortunately, the main character – P.K. – had been bullied and overall had a hard time in school because of it. His father had been killed by an elephant before his birth, and his mother got sick and died when he was young, so the viewers had a strong sense of sympathy for the boy. He had to move with his grandfather, and sought tutelage under an old ‘cacti-loving musician’ who had been kicked out of Germany because of the war (WW2). I won’t spend time writing out the whole movie, but this movie had a great message, and I love the quote one of P.K.’s teachers said: “Inclusion, not exclusion, is the key to survival.” That quote summarises the main message from the movie, and I really enjoyed watching it – although I did sometimes feel angry at what some of the characters did and said. ☺
Today:
For morning class – once again – we had NAPLAN! 😒
Today we had Reading Comprehension, and although it wasn’t too difficult, I didn’t feel as confident with that test as I did the last 2. I am happy we are almost done, and that we have 2 maths test tomorrow 😀 (I love maths).
After morning tea (since we only had one NAPLAN test today) everyone went outside for a community game, but we had to cut it short because one of the girls got hurt quite badly – however she seems to have recovered quickly and is now back up on her feet and joining in during class.
When we went back to class, I finished off some things in my passport, and wrote Jessalyn a few statements as her peer feedback, for the evidence in her passport.
For afternoon class we had ‘Movie Making’. We were split up into groups of 3-4 and had to make a movie that under the theme of mystery ( <- yes, the italics was on purpose ^-^). They told us to pick a piece of paper from an envelope, and we had to use the prompt that was on the piece of paper (for example, our team’s prompt was: the mystery of life – Who am I? What does it all mean? What makes me, me?). It was a little difficult at first trying to think of what to make our movie about, but once we began thinking up ideas, we got a pretty good idea for the movie. We filmed a few scenes today, but I am a bit nervous about the rest of the scenes, since our only other lesson is in expo groups, and the other 2 students in my team are in a different expo group to me.
Overall, the movie making was a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to edit it, and see how it comes out.
WWW.Wednesday:
Today I learned the importance of planning, because when making our movie, it really helped having that plan to know what scenes we needed to film. I know I can apply planning to many other factors of my life, especially in academic things like when I have to make a project, or a writing piece.
