Quote of the Day: “The next best thing to winning is losing! At least you’ve been in the race.” – Nellie Hershey Tullis
Last Night’s Evening Class:
Yesterday evening, we had Music Night. It was an amazingly interactive activity, as everyone in the community participated and had fun, showing their musical side. If they didn’t perform, they joined in a sing-along. I was slightly disappointed that I couldn’t completely control the pitch of my voice, or reach certain notes, because I am coming out of a recent cold, but I joined in anyways, and performed with some people in the community.
Today:
For morning class, we had Problem Solving. Unfortunately, this was not based around maths problems, but rather problems that people may be facing, and how we can approach those situations.
We started the lesson by each writing down a secret that we had. We didn’t have to share the secret, but Ms Weuthrich did ask us what it would take for us to tell her – or anyone – the secret. We then wrote down (on post it notes that she had given out to us) 2-3 problems that we had to face here, or in our day-to-day life. We then brought them all together, and looked at what they were. Once they were all read out, we had a substantial discussion about how each problem deserved to be there, and even though some of us may take it as a joke, they could be more of a problem to others. One of the most powerful examples that I could think of at the time was: some people may find it difficult to get up in the morning because they are tired, or want to stay warm, whilst others may find it difficult because they are dealing with depression and have to psych themselves up to face the day.
After morning tea, we talked about ways we can approach/talk to people that are coming to us to confess a secret, or get them to tell us what is on their mind. The teacher explained and told us to follow the POOCH guideline.
Feedback Friday:
Written by Samantha Simpson (my feedback buddy):
Laura had been great over the last week; she had been putting in to everything that we have been going. She had also been working on her goals and I think she had done very well on trying to listen to others and not put all of her ideas and letting other have a say. She had very well in CPR exam today and in problem solving too. And she didn’t challenge anyone’s ideas at all which is good because she is working on her Listening, Viewing and Responding. However, she might have to work on her managing her personal learning because she is a little bit behind in somethings that had to be done a while back. But she is doing great, Keep up the great work!
