Quote of the Day: “Be like a postage stamp; stick to it until you make it.” – Margret Cartey
Evening:
Yesterday we had LLP Prep. It was the final lesson before our actual LLP day where we had to present to the year 5-6s from Newmerella Primary School. Jaz, Jess and I practiced our speech for a while, changed a few things, and just reiterated what was to be done in our lesson. We also organized with Mrs. Pascall and Mrs. Wade (the cooks) when we were to make damper for both morning tea, and the dough for our activity group. The LLP committee told us how the day would be run, and all the things we needed to do, as well as who our ‘buddies’ were going to be – the primary school student we would have to ‘take care of’ for the whole day.
Today:
For all of today, we had LLP Day. In the morning, I organised a few things I would need for my PPI interview, but after that, all I was focused on was the LLP Day. We headed down to the kitchen in the morning after all the duties were finished, and started making damper. We made the dough really quickly – because it was only made with flour, salt and water – and separated some for the class later today. The rest of the dough was put in the oven, and cooked for morning tea.
When the primary school students arrived, they were given a little tour of the school, and then we got to know our buddies. Unfortunately, the buddy that I was meant to be with today, did not attend, so I went with the other girls in my group, and met their buddy. We then split off into our 3 main groups, and played a few ‘get to know you’ games.
After morning tea, we went straight into the classes that we had prepared. We listened to 2 presentations before lunch – Dangerous Animals, and Marine Animals – and 2 more after lunch. Our group (Bush Tucker) was straight after lunch, so before class started, we lit the campfire, and got the dough we needed. The headcount/roll call lasted a little longer than usual, so we had to cut off some of our lesson plan, but overall, it ran quite well. We showed the kids some of the native plants that were around the campus, and then we went to ‘Grandma’ (the campfire) and began talking more about Bush Tucker. We gave them a definition, and let the primary students play a little game. After, we gave a little background knowledge on the Aboriginals before colonisation, and then made damper (^-^).
We went a little over time, but everyone seemed to have enjoyed our activity.
At the end of the day, after everyone left, we did a bit of reflection, on how we went on our presentations, and what we could improve on.

I really enjoyed LLP day today, and I think that the presenting skills and feedback I got today, will help me speak to students my age, and younger. This will be especially helpful when we do our CLP, as we will be interacting with grade 6-8, and during today’s interactions, we know different ways to present information in engaging ways.
