Quote of the Day: “The task of leadership is not to put greatness into people, but to elicit it, as the greatness is already there.” – John Buchan
Evening:
Last night’s evening class, was another movie night. This time, we watched The Sapphires. This was the first time I watched this movie, and it was actually pretty good. It was fairly inspirational, seeing the girls become resilient, and didn’t stop with their dream of becoming famous singers. It was a significantly emotional movie, as it was set during the Vietnam War, and in a few scenes, there were gun fights and all the other things that could be associated with war.
Although at times the film was fairly predictable, it was a good movie, and I particularly enjoyed it.
Today:
Today for morning class, we had a Values workshop. Here we watched some short clips on character, and talked about strength. One of the first activities was us doing push-ups. The teacher – who wasn’t being very encouraging – told us we had to do 60, and if we couldn’t keep up the pace, to drop out. I am not too sure why, but I was determined to push (<= no pun intended) myself and get at least past 30 (half way). I managed to get up to 38 and was one of the last 3 still doing it. For me that was quite an achievement and I am quite proud of myself for that. The second activity, was trying to keep our face straight and not smile, whilst another person was in front of us, doing whatever they could to make us laugh. When that was over, we sat down and had a discussion about the different types of strength there are. We mainly discussed mental strengths, and how a person’s mind set can affect their ability to perform tasks.
Later in the class, we took a little survey to see what our predominant characteristics were. I was a little surprised by my results, but according to the survey, my top five traits (in order) were:
For afternoon class, we had a session called ‘Busy Time’. In this lesson, we went outside – in the rain – to work on a shed that will soon be built near the veggie garden. We also did a bit of work in the shed near the garage, and did a bit of gardening. In this class we sure kept ‘busy’ – although I would have preferred doing something like passport or global issues – but I did have quite a bit of fun in the class.
Motivated Monday:
Something that I really enjoyed this passing week was completing my second/last three-day expedition. Although there were a few difficult times, I really liked spending time with my expo group, and realising that the journey wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be.
A more negative part of my week was realising that we only have 2 more Mondays (3 weeks) as of today. This is quite disappointing as I do enjoy being here at SRC, and it might be a little difficult to contact and meet up with some people that live more towards the country.
