Evening:
Yesterday’s evening class was called ‘Innovations’. To start the lesson, we were given a few puzzles that we needed to solve. I knew the answer to all of them, as I had done them before, but it was still an enjoyable segment to the class. We were then split into groups, and had to make an ‘innovative’ invention – for the kitchen – out of a cereal box, some nails, paperclips, rubber-bands, and aluminium foil. My team decided to make the ‘Multi Magic Kitchenarator’. This was a handy – pocket sized – device that had a dual blade knife, a mini whisk, a clock, as well as a safety cap that doubles as an oven. The teachers seemed to really like our invention, but unfortunately – because we didn’t use absolutely every single piece of material we had – we were marked down. It was still a very fun night.
Toda:
Today for morning class, I had ‘Global Issues Presentations’. My presentation was about food and agriculture, however, I went a bit more into food security – or lack thereof. I actually really enjoyed this class as it was very interesting looking at all the different issues that affect people on a global scale, and seeing others’ views on it. I particularly enjoyed my presentation, because I set it out as a persuasive speech/argument. It was fun to be able to speak in a slightly angry tone and call it ‘voice modulation’.
Overall, I did enjoy making and presenting this global issue, and it was less nerve-racking than I thought it would be.
For afternoon class, I had ‘Movie Maker 2’. On our first class, my group – which wasn’t here today since I am the only one from my expo group in the film-making team – filmed a few things. I actually thought we didn’t have enough footage to make a movie, but it turns out that what we filmed was actually a bit long. There are a few more scenes that need to be filmed (so that the story can run smoothly and make sense) but overall, it is not too bad – basing it on the fact that we don’t have very good resources, and it will only be a 2-minute film.
Teamwork Tuesday:
It seems that my expo group has actually had an improvement in the overall behaviour. There seems to be a lot more respect all round, and although some people have a few disagreements here and there, we try to stay focused, and on task. As we are reaching the end of the program, I can see the development that people have had here, and the positive change that this experience has had on people.
