Quote of the Day: “If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or objects.” – Albert Einstein
Evening:
Last night for evening class, we had aa lesson called ‘5 Factors of Health and Wellbeing.’ This activity was hosted by 2 girls from my expo group, and everyone from core 1 – 1A and 1B – participated in it. In this class, we looked at what it means to be healthy, and how we can balance our emotional, mental, physical and social health (I know there is only 4 in that list, but the last topic we looked at was balancing all those, so I am assuming that is what Snowy considers the 5th factor – balance) and how classes, or different aspects of the community have assisted in developing certain skills in those categories. It was very interesting to see how much I – as well as others – learnt during Snowy, and that we could explain what we had learnt and achieved through our time here.
Today:
For our first lesson today, we had First Aid Scenarios. Here we were split into 4 groups, and we had to act out a few scenarios, and apply the knowledge we had gained from previous first aid classes so we could treat the patients. It was really fun to dress up and play out our scenarios, but at the same time, when we are applying first aid, it was a little nerve-racking. Especially during our second scenario, we forgot to do one step, and couldn’t calm down our patient, so he went into shock. Although it wasn’t real, the person I was with started stressing, and I wasn’t too certain what to do myself. Overall we didn’t do a bad job in that scenario, and did treat him successfully, but that definitely got me thinking of how it could be like in a real situation where we had to help someone that we may not know too well.
The final scenario we did, was ‘at the site of a massive car crash’. Every person (apart from 3 people who were first aiders) was assigned a ‘role’ of sorts. There was one drunk and aggressive driver, 2 passengers (one severely injured, the other one not), one person tied up in the back of the van, and 2 cyclists that were injured. The final role, that was performed by yours truly, was a bystander that saw the incident happen, and just wasn’t helping at all. The scenario basically started with me screaming, and that is what I did through the whole process. I just screamed. I was getting in the first aiders’ way and just making everything a lot more difficult than it needed to be. Apparently, I shocked everyone with my scream, and I was really annoying – which to me is definitely a plus, because that was what I was meant to be doing. It was a really fun activity, but it was also a very necessary one because instead of just doing theory, we got to apply our knowledge and skills on ‘real life’ people.
For our afternoon class, we had an elective. This means, that we got to choose what we did for that 4 hours in class. After long consideration, my expo group decided on going out to the Yeerung Gorge, as well as the beach. I was a very fun and relaxing class, as we didn’t have to worry about doing any work, and just experiencing nature.
Thankful Thursday:

Three things I am thankful for this week are:
- Being able to go out and do activities I would never normally have the opportunity to participate in, with a group of supportive friends
- Having time to relax, and just not worry too much about different things happening around me, because I know I can get stressed quite easily, so just being given the ability to spend time doing virtually nothing is of great assistance
- Being able to work on myself, and being given the chance to develop certain characteristics so I can become a better leader – and person
