Evening:
Last night for evening class, we had a session called gender night. Here we split off into gender groups and asked – as a group – 4-6 questions that we really wanted to know about the opposite sex. This could range from personal/emotional questions, like insecurities or any other mature question we came up with. Since there were more girls, we had about 6 questions to ask them, whilst the guys gave us 4. As a group we then came up with answers, and shared them to the whole community.
It was quite a fun night, and everyone approached this in a positive manner. No one made any inappropriate jokes or immature things, and overall, I think everyone benefited from this lesson.
Today:
For morning class today, 1B had conflict resolution. In this class, we learnt the most common way we deal with conflict, and we got given ‘Conflict Animals’. We were supposed to have 2 top conflict animals, but since I got equal scores for 2 of the animals, I have 3.
My main conflict animal is the ‘Compromising Fox’. This means that in a conflict, I usually am:
- Equally concerned with my own goals and relationships with others
- I seek a compromise: I give up a part of my goals and persuade the other person in a conflict to give up part of their goals
- And I seek a conflict solution in which both sides gain something (middle ground between two extreme positions)
As a class, we talked about when it is appropriate to use each conflict strategy, and how it always differs, depending on who we are conflicting against.
After that, we looked at the 3 ways that people mainly deal with conflict. The 3 categories were:
- Passive: They completely avoid conflict with a person, and just walk away from it.
- Aggressive: Can start to be violent, raise their voice, or even be passive aggressive with negative body language.
- Assertive: One of the best ways to deal with conflict. To calmly approach the person you have a problem with and figure out a solution to the problem with them.
This class was fairly helpful, and although I felt confident approaching others when I had an issue, this made me feel more confident that I won’t hurt them in any way.
For afternoon class, we had passport. Here, I managed to finish an edit my learning journey, and start a bit of my ‘Going home’. I am not 100% up-to-date at the moment, but I think that if I use my spare time wisely, I can get it done quickly.
Selfie Sunday:
This past week, I have been a bit more productive in the community. I have helped around the kitchen and around the campus quite a bit, and today as student leader, I have made sure that certain tasks (like tidying up rooms) get done – at least in the girls’ wing. So far, I have been a little stressed since there are quite a few things I need to get done by the next 2 weeks. However, I have decided to keep a positive attitude, and I know I can finish everything in time.
