Quote of the Day: “Don’t bury your failures; let them inspire you.” – Unknown
Evening:
For last night’s evening class, we had Peer/Self Reports. In this lesson, we had to write a small – and by small, I mean really small, only 50 word – statement on our time here. We had to talk about a specific activity were we learnt something, how this experience has changed us, and what we will continue improving on. We then did the same for our feedback buddy, except, obviously, for them. I struggled quite a bit keeping in the word limit – because every time I wrote something, it turned out to be over 80 words – but I managed to finally write a small paragraph for both myself, and my feedback buddy Sam. It was quite a productive lesson, and also a bit scary, because it showed that our teachers are already writing up our reports, and we are nearing closer to the end of our time here.
Today:
For morning class, we had a session called ‘Service Learning’. This is where we go out into the community and help out. For the past 3 years, SRC has been working with Landcare to plant native plants and bushes out in Orbost. Today, we did the same. Core B – 1B and 2B – went out first, and helped plant about 300 plants (there were 600 in total that SRC had to plant). It was a very fun, not to mention, relaxing class, and we got to appreciate the tranquility of nature. Yes, there was the odd shouting from one of my teammates as she struggled to dig a hole because of all the roots in the dirt, but still, very relaxing. We also got to play with 2 dogs that were there – Maggie and Stella – as they belonged to some of the volunteers that were also helping us plant the trees.
For afternoon class, we had our final surf lesson (so sad ;-;). I managed to stand up and turn the board more frequently, which was good, since today was when the instructor was marking us to see what certificate we would be presented with at the end of the term. There were very small waves today, but it was still a fun day.
As another section of the surf course, we learnt a very basic surf rescue. The instructor told us that it was very basic, and warned us to only do it if we were confident with our paddling. We then went out into the beach and tried the small drill. We partnered up, and each had a turn to be the drowning victim, and the surf rescuer. It was a very easy rescue, but I know it would be a lot more difficult trying to calm down a person the was drowning.
Teamwork Tuesday:
This week, the team has been very productive, and has had a good vibe overall. We now listen to each other more, and pay more respect. More people are stepping up and challenging each other if they know what someone is doing isn’t right.
As I stated, there has been a good, productive and positive vibe coming from the team this week, and I do hope this continues, so we can end this experience on a high note.
